About Deaf And Hearing  Impaired

People who are deaf, are “hard of hearing” or are “hearing impaired” may be more susceptible to the impacts of storms, floods and tsunamis as their access to information may be limited.

The NSW SES recognises that it is essential that this community is able to contact the NSW SES.
A video has been produced that explains how this community can contact the NSW SES through the National Relay Service.

A range of videos in Auslan (Australian Sign Language) have also been produced. These videos inform the Deaf community, those who are “hard of hearing” or “hearing impaired” to understand what they can do to prepare for storms, floods and tsunamis and what they should do during storms, floods and tsunamis. Some of these videos are also captioned in English.

If you would like more information about how to work with this community, please contact Elizabeth Gardiner on 0437467874.
